HELP my duckling is floping and cant stand up! URGENT HELP.

He cant get up. He is just lying on his back.
Okay don't let it lay on it's back they say it is not good for water fowl. place the little one back into the donut. that will give it support . What breed are we talking about? check it's feet are they nice and warm or cold to the touch? very carefully give water you don't want any to go into the air sacs and diff don't give water while it's laying on it's back. can it hold it's head up yet and do you have any poultry vitamins did you say how old this duckling is? and please explain why you catch your duckling with a net. do you have to chase it?

Yes I have to chase them. The net was so I have a better chance at catching them. I have good news. He is trying to get up and is drinking water. the bad news is is that it looks like he cant move his neck.

That is great news! If he's able to get up and around, just give him some time.

Just so you can avoid this in the future, please take this advice that I'm giving with the kindest of intentions. Please stop trying to catch your ducks with nets. Nets are for things like butterflies. Ducks don't need to be caught to go into their nighttime surroundings. Our ducks just go to their pens when it begins to get dark, mostly, and that's because they know it's their safe place and it's time for bed.

If yours aren't gravitating toward their pens at dusk or before, get behind them and spread your arms, then slowly walk toward them and say some standard thing. My hubby calls this 'herding the ducks.' I promise you they will go in the direction you're leading them, and no injuries if you give them their time. Over time, they just know that's where they need to go at night and they mostly go there on their own.

Trying to get up is a good sign and drinking water is another good one. If he hit his head or you hit him accidently with the net his neck could be sprained And can most likely heal if given time. But listen chasing ducklings/ducks is not good for them their little legs aren't meant for running and can cause serious injury. I'd suggest you make somekind of fenced area for them so when time to go back inside you can calmly herd them into a corner very slowly or offer some kind of yummy treat and teach them to come to you then gently pick them up one at a time and back into the bin Dog Xpens are nice or plastic poultry fencing from Lowes is very easy to put up and makes a nice fenced area for ducklings to play in. How is the lil one holding it's neck?
