This is my second time brooding ducklings and I've taken to using old towels, some with strings, as the flooring(easy to clean). With my first brood of ducklings, they'd peck at it but not eat the loose strings. I checked on my new brood and saw the string resting against a duckling's leg and I thought it'd been snagged. I GENTLY pulled the string and found it partially in a different duckling's mouth. I tried pulling it out(gently) but the duckling has swallowed a part of it. I broke off the string from the towel and separated the duckling so that the string couldn't get caught on the other ducklings, so now my question is... how do I get the string out of the duckling? I don't want to hurt the duckling or endanger it by just ripping it out, but I don't want to leave it in. At this point I'm wondering if I should just cut it as close as I can to the beak and let the duckling swallow it, but will it cause internal problems? I'd hate to accidentally cause the duckling's death.

We cut it close to it's beak just so it didn't swallow the foot more of it, I gave it water and am keeping it away from it's broodmates for the time being, should I be worried about health related issues now?

How big was this string it’s got to go through the crop and into the gizzard to be ground up hopefully it will poop it out do you have chick grit if not I would get some and put a small bowl close by their feed not in it so your duckling will have grit in its gizzard to grind up the string.
