She only goes out in our back yard which is protected with a 6 ft cedar fence. She is 7 yrs old and is very special to us. (I'm sure you all have special ones) She's a fair weather cat, she goes out in the back yard to sniff and play, and quickly comes back in. She is never out at night and never out alone.

Today, we had a person come and powerwash our back deck and apparently Kiki was most likely out and about in the yard. Well, we haven't seen or heard her. She could be under the deck that was cleaned, and if you know how those monster powerwashers are they are noisy. She could be stuck under there, I don't know, I can't see under there. I'm calling and calling her.

We lost her 4 years ago, under similar circumstances, and three days later during a thunderstorm, she was at the back door! It was like a miracle that she even came home, so I'm wishing she will do the same.

My problem: my daughter is VERY ATTACHED to her. She has lots of problems in the depression, ocd area and I'm afraid this will mess her up big time.

Everything was looking up for us until now. Please wish us luck in getting her safely home to us.

Did you try a favorite treat?

She's probably hiding in a safe spot very close to home (

) waiting to make sure things are safe. My favorite cat pushed out the window screen (before we nailed all the screens in place) and was so well hidden in the shrubs next door we never saw her. Frantically I shook her chow bag while calling her and she finally worked up the courage to come out from hiding. I hope you have the same luck.

Prayers are with you, your daughter and your cat!

Luna/Ginny, I was relieved to read the part about the power washing because it's almost certain she got spooked and is just hiding till she feels like it's okay to resurface. I bet if you go out tonight softly calling her and saying wonderful things about her, she'll surface, or at least listen and then later surface!. Do you have a kitty door that she can come in if it's real late and you've turned in for the night? There's a small chance she ran a distance (can she get out of the fenced area?) and if she doesn't know the area isn't sure how to get back so you may have to go searching. This happened with the cat of a friend of mine and finally she called an animal communicator who told her the cat was lost, didn't know how to get back but she was able to describe where the cat was and long story short, the cat is safely home now after 2 weeks missing. Much more likely your furry kid will resurface this evening.....
Will check back

She can be skittish. I tried calling her and shaking her kitty kibble container. She loves whiskas kitty milk, how do you make a noise with that? I did my squeaky voice for her, it's like she disappeared. Why are cats that way?

This is why my youngest cat is indoor only. But this cat would only go out to enjoy the yard and come in. Why oh why are cats mysterious like this?

Thank you for your kind wishes. I took a flashlight and standing on the deck in question I can only see dirt below, no Kiki. I will not sleep well tonight.

JJ - I hope you're right. The noise was bad, I took my newest chook inside because she was pacing back and forth with a panic look in her eyes, and her beak wide open. She calmed down and when it was over i took her back out to her pen and she is fine, but i need my cat back.

I was ready to go to bed and I did a last ditch look out back, and I heard her! She's OK and she's home!

Dang it anyhow. Just when you start to worry.....that's when they show up. Of course she's getting the princess treatment right now, and DD and I and all...we will sleep well now.

Thank you guys for your support!

Awwww - more than likely she is in a very good hidey spot waiting until she feels safe to come out. And this could be a few days before something (like hunger, or a storm) forces the issue.

I understand the stress of having people around who may disrupt a pet's balance. I used to live in apartment and in the dead of winter our heat went out (hot water pipes). A guy came to fix it and left a vent open. My little scairdy cat disappeared and I was convinced I'd NEVER see her again. I didn't know if she got out the door or worse, into the open vent (which was really quite small) because who knew what could happen there (we were on the 3rd floor).

After frantically looking for her, and giving up for the night (at about 1 am), I saw a dirty rat like thing run across my floor. I went to follow it to make sure I hadn't imagined something, and there were two large glowing eyes staring back at me from under the bed. It was my cat, filthy and terrified, but safe. She'd been in the floor or walls and I had to give her a bath before recognizing her. She is still here 8 yrs later...

I will be thinking of you and your daughter and hoping for the best.

EDIT- YAY! She's found! Take care of that little one! rest well.
