A month ago, my flock started picking on four white hens. They all ended up with prolapsed or bleeding vents. I lost three of them, but I still have one more hen, Mrs. Cleanegg (so named because she usually lays clean eggs). She had a prolapsed vent but it went back quickly. In meantime we cleaned her vent daily but we couldn't stop swelling. Today we gave her arnica so I hope that helps. I do admit, the chickens have a bit of a poor diet, not that much of protein but what do I give them for protein? Her vent is still swollen, her butt feathers are wet all the time and there's always a bit of blood or poop on her butt. I'm not that sure that her prolapsed vent has gone back. Any ideas?

Meat, fish, scrambled eggs, and yogurt, are all good short-term choices for protein.
Can you get pictures of the swollen area?
Is it warm and swollen? If it were summer, I'd say a cool compress but I'm not sure I'd recommend it in winter.

Yes the other hen is different than this one, in the other thread it Lhicken, in this one it's Mrs. Cleanegg. I don't know how to get pictures because this is on my computer.

Vent is not prolapsed (I think?) Poop is normal
Sounds like you need to seek vet care since you have 2 chickens in need of care.

Do you have a phone or can you have someone take photos for you?

Thing is, the nearest vet is at least 1 or 2 hours away, and I don't know how to upload pictures on my computer

I found out how to post pictures and I just cleaned my chicken's butt, and I'll post a few pictures soon:)

Hi there! I just had a chicken with a prolapsed vent back in January. I also, have a vet that is an hour away. I put her in a pet carrier in the garage and kept it dark to make sure she did not lay any eggs. I cleaned up her vent and put vaseline on it too. I was told some people use honey. She kept popping out the innards and I kept putting them back for a few days, then I just cleaned them up and left them out since it didn't affect her pooping abilities. After a week, it popped back in. I fed her scrambled eggs and tuna in water. Sometimes I would add a little dried herbs into the mix too. I am not sure how your chicken is acting. Mine felt sluggish for a day or two and then acted normal while we waited for the innards to go back in. I hope this helps.
