Help, my hen has a swollen, prolapsed vent!

Oh no.. 😢 are you sure she doesn’t have coccidiosis? My other chicken who had it at the same time as my hen was very lethargic and wouldn’t eat/drink so I had to use the dropper.
Then hen with the prolapse was eating/drinking throughout and was still quite active despite her vent protruding. I’m assuming because she was getting the medicine via water.
I'm sure. Her poop was green then white. She just ate a bit of applesauce. She is 6 years old. I'm still able to push the vent in but when she goes to try and poop she pushes it out.

Hi there! I also have a chicken with a prolapsed vent x2 days. I have had to continuously put it back in. It stays in until she has another poop. I gave her calcium yesterday and she did have a fully formed egg. But vent fell out again after her poop. I have been spraying antiseptic on the area and polysporin. I have given her a few baths too. And put on preparation h. I have her in a dog carrier with a blanket over top for her to rest. She is still eating and drinking and pooping. Any other thoughts/ideas to keep the vent in?
My chicken took about a week before her stuff went back in. I did try putting it back in at the beginning, but she hated it and I figured she was pooping fine that I would leave it out. I would just clean her up, I used vaseline on her vent. I also gave her scrambled eggs to eat. She acted fine and normal and then one day it was back in. If its still not back in after a week or so, I might take her to the vet, if you can. I didn't and was lucky it went back in because the closest vet that works on chickens is an hour away for me.

I could do it like that. She ate a little applesauce so I'm hoping that's enough so she doesn't starve. Thank you for your help. I think it looks worse to me because of my anxiety and because I love her so much.

Wow that sounds amazing. I have a hen who had a prolapse about 4 weeks ago. took her to the vet and was given anti biotic. We had to push the prolapse back in a couple of times but now it seems fine. she has always eaten and drank and ran around like nothing was wrong but now the other hens, a couple in particular, are not happy with her. one has jumped on her a couple times. anyway, we have put her back in the run but with chicken wire to separate. they all seem ok. I guess it is a waiting game when to know when she can be put back in the coop at night, I'm so scared to put her in there with the bullies. Also, will she ever lay eggs again? my hens have fruit and veg every day, potato peelings when I have them but she has been eating the layers pellets again now and I saw her eating the grit this week. What do you think? will she lay again? Thank you in advance

Keep her separated for a few weeks maybe? I had to reintegrate Mrs Clean-egg too because her flock forgot her.

Thank you. at the moment she has been back in the run with the other chooks for almost a week but separated with chicken wire. She is fine in herself it just seems after a while Marmalade realises and jumps on her. She has ignored her for the past few days but I am petrified of putting her in the coup at night at the moment so bringing her in to her little coup on her own at nights.

About a week ago the vent went back in. So I waited a few hours and it was still in so I put her back with the others. Well, tonight it popped out again. Not as bad. It's kind of at the edge except when she starts pushing like she's struggling. I pushed it in and she does it again. I'm letting her rest tonight but she won't lay down in the crate. I'm thinking I put her back in too early. It seemed like it just happened. Do you have any other advice?

Hi there! I just had a chicken with a prolapsed vent back in January. I also, have a vet that is an hour away. I put her in a pet carrier in the garage and kept it dark to make sure she did not lay any eggs. I cleaned up her vent and put vaseline on it too. I was told some people use honey. She kept popping out the innards and I kept putting them back for a few days, then I just cleaned them up and left them out since it didn't affect her pooping abilities. After a week, it popped back in. I fed her scrambled eggs and tuna in water. Sometimes I would add a little dried herbs into the mix too. I am not sure how your chicken is acting. Mine felt sluggish for a day or two and then acted normal while we waited for the innards to go back in. I hope this helps.
This is so helpful dealing with this right now. What size was it?

I would have her rest on her own for awhile and if it doesn't go in or if it keeps popping out, I would probably take her to a vet if you can and are okay with the costs, or just keep watching it if she is at least acting fine.
