Help, my neighbor is family, and their dog keeps attacking my chickens

Crazy about their dog but don't care enough to keep it safe.

I think you've said your peace and watched the moths fly out their ears. You just can't reason with that kind of stupid, so don't waste your breath anymore.

If the dog will come to you, send him far out of town to a pound and let him know he's a stray that needs to be kept away from chickens. No sense wasting his life if he's otherwise a good dog.

If they're family, all te more reason to be firm. If family tension is the result, they are the cause, not you. Being good to family means helping them in times of need, being there for them, spending time together, etc. It doesn't mean letting them walk all over you. If you wanted a chicken killing dog in your yard, you would buy your own and still not need theirs.

I say to take fish guts/heads and place them in an area for the dog to find very easily. He will not only eat what he wants but will roll in it and go home as a very big ,gross, smelly suprise for his owners. It will distract him a bit from your chickens and when he goes home like that a few times a week, they will start keeping him home. They have made your life extremely unpleasant and time for you to make theirs the same.
Or you can always trap him and take him to the shelter.

We had that problem with my husband's brother's beagles... Told him several times... then, one day he called and told us his dogs were missing and wanted to know if he needed to buy dog food... You can figure out the rest of the story.

A similar incident happened to us today. In my case, I don't know who to be more angry at, my wife and kids or the neighbor's dog. Someone left our garage door opened while two light brahma chicks were in the brooder. They're each about 6 weeks old. Well, lo and behold the neighbor directly across the street had their dog out and off the leash. It entered our garage and left with one of the chicks. I'm wasn't home but I'm told the neighbor apologized but didn't offer to replace the chick. I'm going to report the incident to animal control and remind the neighbor about our leash laws.

lol, our neighbors had their dogs out, but they didn't mean to. Tried to fix it... we were smart enough to pen up our birds in our yard AND the neighbor did punish their dogs for ANY birds killed (very few, since we worked it out)...

HOWEVER, sometimes we'd leave yucky grody food outside... the dogs would eat it when they're in our yard, and when he lets them in at night, they puke and poo all over his house

(mind you, they overindulge, not poisoned). LOL, he got the idea! But he's trying. He's finally figured out a system, since all three of his dogs were escape artists...

I'd just... iono, dog = pound. Last result, shoot it. Check to make sure legal first. If they love their dog, they would NOT let it roam. Period.

For starters, I would spraypaint their dog so they would have a heck of a time getting him clean. Rubbing manure all over him is another great idea. Most definitely, I would have taken any birds he killed and left them on the doorstep of the owner so they would see what their beast did and would be forced to deal with it. Unfortunately, we pretty well HAVE to put up fences and stronger pens in order to protect our pets from the pets that belong to irresponsible people. It's important to remember that this is NOT the dog's fault. It's the fault of irresponsible owners who do not deserve to have a dog.
