Hello! I was wondering if you could help me, I am really worried!
My brother came crying in a few days ago that he had accidentally stepped on one of our hens feet!!
Im not sure if it’s connected to the problem, but one of her toes has turned sideways. She is still walking, but it looks like one of the pads has got bigger. It is hard to tell because of the mud which colour it is.
We got these chickens 2-3 months ago, so I am still new to this! They are at least 40 weeks old.
I am going to attach some photos, but I’m sorry I’m advance, she kept moving, and it was raining..!

This last one is the best one.

Please, can you help me, give all the advice you have. How do we fix it?
Is this serious?
If you don’t know, please at least answer. Your response means so much to me.
Help!
Thank you!

I don't think it looks too bad either. I would leave her be for now. Just watch her to see if the toe swells up, or if she's having trouble walking.

Agreed, it doesn't look too bad. A bit of swelling. If it's fractured it may heal crooked, but lots of chickens live with wonky toes and do just fine. I would clean the foot off, give it a soak, and look to make sure there is no broken skin. That would leave it open for possible for infection. I generally don't splint toes unless it's pretty bad and going to really affect them getting around or roosting, it can be hard to get splints on correctly so that they stay, unless it's the shoe type. It's a lot of work if it's just a mild thing.
