I hope someone can help me. I think my rooster needs antibiotics but it seems like everything needs a prescription and I can’t see the vet until Monday afternoon and this is Saturday afternoon. He started breathing heavy day before yesterday
Thursday. I brought him in yesterday, Friday, and now his waddle and comb are turning purple so I’m really worried about him. He’s not really coughing or sneezing much. I don’t see any discharge.

Maybe a heart condition? Stress related?
I wouldnt give antibiotics if you are not sure what is the cause.

How old is he?
He turned a year old in September.

He is a year old. I don’t think he’s stressed.

Is he drinking water? I would offer water, and add some electrolytes in one container. Dehydration could be a problem, but a heart issue could also be if he is drinking normally. You can mix a bit of water into a small bowl of chicken fee, and change it twice a day to keep it fresh. Is he new, and do you have other roosters who may have been keeping him from water or food?

He drank and ate very little. He’s not new to the flock. No new birds.
It’s so strange. Thankfully he’s the only sick bird. I have him quarantined.

Thanks for all your suggestions.
