Help, My ruby is sick

She is definatley doing a lot better now. Haven't heard any gurgle for awhile. My 3yr old grandaughter drew her a pretty picture and placed on the outside of her crate to make her feel better. Pretty pictures always make me feel better.

Thanks for all the info on garlic. Great to know for future use. I'm always learning something new everytime I'm here. When is it safe to start eating her eggs if the antibiotics stay in her system for 3 days after?

This is a totally debatable issue.I have heard everything from just while they are medicated (from a package of tetracycline) to 1 week all the way up to 30 days! There is a lot of different opinions.
The only issues I've heard it may cause from eating eggs containing antibiotic is that in the small dose you could very well become resistant, or if you have an allergy to it it could be dangerous, then there was something about contracting salmonella that seemed off to me but idk.
Anyway, for myself -to be on the safe side- I choose to wait 10 days but that's just me.

Thanks tigerrrrrrrlilly, It just seems such a shame that you can't eat them especially tis time of year when laying is at it's minimal. I feel like I hit gold when I get three. Ruby is feeling sassy again. She keeps tipping over her food dish and she sang the egg song after laying today. And wow did she sing. Phew I feel better.

Now not sure if I should post this as a new thread but when I put her back into the coop is it best to place here in at night. It's hard for me to fathom (boy spell check would be nice) that she will be considered a new chicken when I bought them all together. They haven't been seperated before. I hope all goes well. She was second in command. Hope she can get back there.

If you like natural try adding food grade Diatomtious Earth to feed daily it gets rid of worms and other parasites. You can dust the chickens, coop and other pets to get rid of mites, fleas, ticks and other pests. I use it daily and it saved some of my chickens. They had worms but I couldnt see any in their poop. I lost 4 before I figured out what was going on the were sneezing had pale combs and wattles and were getting sick one at a time. I had given them dewormer from the feed store and 2 weeks worth of antibiotics. I feed them using the DE and the next morning where they had roosted there the little culbrits were in the poop round worms. It doesnt affect the eggs or the chickens(meat birds). I love this stuff.
