Help: Need advice on Deworming

Some chickens? How many exactly and what worming drug were they given and at what dose.
I don't doubt that if one searched hard enough one could find a report or even a few reports of chicken dying from being dewormed. If you then compare those numbers with the total number of chickens that have been dewormed without any ill effects, and bearing in mind how many of these successful worming treatments have saved the life of a chicken then it helps to put such alarmist stories into perspective.
If your rooster needs deworming then deworm him. Make sure you use a reputable and effective dewormer and at the right dose for the right period of time.

Thank you! I’ve read that from a local cockfighting group thread. It’s not in English. I think it’s just a myth. Anyway, he’s already under fasting right now (it’s currently 6pm from where we are). I’ll proceed with the deworming on early morning.

It is not a myth. Depending on the amount and kind of worms and the dewormer (if a drug is used that will instantly kill all worms at once) they could die from an overload of toxines produced by the dying worms, or from entangled dead worms blogging the digestive passage.

That is why in case a heavy wormload is suspected, it is advisable to use a dewormer that will take longer than just one pill, although the prolonged therapy is more laborious.

no. only when you give him a pill stop the vitamins for a day or two as they would help worms as well.

Oh that was a long time ago. Maybe a year or more? Before the pandemic started. I am able to bring him to his vet. But when the lockdown started I needed to do things myown.

It’s okay. I fully understand. It’s just because I never tried deworming a thin 4 year old. By the time I got him dewormed he’s still much younger and have more body mass compared today.

And back then, I still didn’t know that deworming can cause chickens to go under stress. I researched deeper facts about it. Like what’s happening why they go under stress during deworming, but I couldn’t find any. That’s why I resorted to ask the experts here. If I should go on with the deworming or not.

I have another roo and three hens with him. They will be dewormed as well.
