I write a chicken blog and have been working on a series related to illnesses/emergencies and have come to the end of the issues I've dealt with first hand (i.e. prolapsed vent, split beak, assisted hatches, bumblefoot, egg binding).

I'm looking for folks willing to tell me their stories and if possible provide photos of your bird. I will do further research, work on the article and send you the draft before it's posted. You'll be given credit for your contribution.

I've posted on several chicken FB groups and have formed some happy collaborations and am looking to expand to issues related to chickens illnesses/diseases/emergencies.

If you want to check out my blog or talk to me please feel free to contact me directly.

Would treating frostbite, mites, fox bites, or tube feeding interest you? I also have experience with Coccidiosis and broken toenails, fixing spraddle leg, assist feeding weak tiny chicks (without tube feeding), beak and nail trimming.

Pretty much everything interests me, though I can't promise I'll be able to publish it. What I'd really like are short stories and photos (I don't like using uncredited material) that I can incorporate into a larger piece. If you can send me any of that I'd be most appreciative. I can send you the link to my blog so you can see what I've done. If you're ok with that and do send me material I will send you a draft before I post and credit your contribution. Thanks

I've treated lice, revived three chicks, helped a chick with injured leg, healed minor frostbite, helped lots of things really... Just not extremely interesting stuff... I have pictures.

I've got some graphic stuff, but lots of us are going to face more mundane issues so I write about those too. Its helpful for folks and let's hope that the 'extremely interesting' stuff doesn't happen too often.

I’ve been treating a nasty case of scaly leg mites... I’ve been taking photos and posting details as I go along. Working on her since Christmas, but didn’t need to amputate any toes thankfully! The thread is under emergencies and disasters as “what to do with this foot?” She went from not walking at all for I don’t know how long before I started treatments to walking normally. The feet are done now.

Thanks, I've done a piece on scaly leg mites, but I'll look at your post. Have you dealt with any other issues?

Coccidiosis, and possibly Sapinglitis if I get my meds in time, but I’m new to chickens, and aside from the very extreme scaly leg mites in the old birds here, no pics or other info worth sharing. I just thought with the level of damage the little buggers did to the feet and toes it might be suitable, to say it wasn’t caught in a timely manner is an understatement, they almost killed her.

Egg bound / broken egg inside of chicken
12/22/2018 I found a 21 month old White Leghorn hen fluffed up in the nesting box with her eyes closed. Once bringing her in the house and checking her I found what appeared to be egg yolk coming out her vent.

I gave her a warm epsom salt bath for 15 min. I put on a latex glove and smeared vaseline on my pointer finger and inserted it into her vent about an 1 1/2 inches. I could not feel any broken egg shells. Once I removed my finger more egg yolk and albumen squirted out of her vent.
I gave her 100 mg of amoxicillin, twice that day and a crushed up tums mixed with water. I was able to get her to eat some mashed all flock crumbles.
I checked her a couple hours later to find she was soaked from another expulsion of yolk and albumen.

I gave her another 15 min Epsom salt bath and checked inside her again (still no shell). Again once removing my finger more yolk and albumen came out and her vent continued to pulse.
I continued syringing her water and mash.
I gave her another bath the next morning and another dose of amoxicillin. She still had more yolk and albumen coming out of her vent.
She never perked back up and died later that day.

Hope this helps.
I also have a video if you want it.

I wonder if she was an internal layer. I'm curious because you didn't feel any egg shells and none were expelled. It's no wonder that birds bred to lay so many eggs have all kinds of issues with their reproductive systems.
