Please help me, I have one hen and she is not sitting at egg, she is 15 months old and she gave the egg in her coop 4 hours ago, So i want to know that what may be the cause for not sitting at egg and what should i do for that ? I need an helpful answer quickly, Please Do Helm Me.

Unless the chicken as gone broody, they don't tend to spend much time sitting on eggs.

Another thing to think about, when they hatch eggs...they usually hatch more than one at a time. Soo..they lay and egg...keep it warmish...but wait till they have a few there to actually sit on them consistantly...that way they all hatch roughly about the same time.

You also said you have one hen...do you have a rooster as well? If not, the egg won't be fertile anyway. So why bother sitting on it?

Should i put some grass below the egg ???????

Means like "NEST" ???

@McGOBS Yeah, I have rooster also....

Not all chickenswill get broody for you..meaning sitting on the eggs to hatch. Some breeds are not as broody as others. The only thing you could do to encourage is put a few fake eggs in the nest or golf balls and she might become broody. Do you know what breed she is?

@adrianapost I don't know what the breed she is ? Could you tell me please how can i know that ? Is there any method to know this ?

Best and quickest way to tell the breed would be to post a picture of your hen on here. As for the grass in the nestbox...thats a personal call.

I've tried pine shavings, hay, grass clippings...just depends on the hen. Some of them prefer to have an empty box with nothing in it, and they kick it all to the floor.

Here are some photos of my hen with egg, Please give any suggestion.

ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEAS OR SUGGESTIONS ??????
