Help needed, I have a rooster that his comb has black spot

He is going to breed the hens and will pull feathers, it's what they do. You do not have to have a rooster for the hen to lay eggs, but you do have to have one to have fertile eggs that will hatch.

I already knew all that, my question is...
Someone who had chickens told me that having a male around encourages them to lay more eggs, is this truth or fiction? If it isn't true then I may put him in another area so he will not 'torture' all my hens with his unwanted attention that way all of them won't be missing feathers on there back. I know they don't need a rooster to lay eggs (amazing how many don't know this isn't it?) As I have had chickens for over 2 years now and found out one of the chicks I got a year ago was a rooster... by accident as they said it was a hen.... trying to give my girls a break from him as he is constantly pinning them down.
