Help needed with quail dying

Stumbling around with droopy wings sounds like coccidia or starvation (like from an impacted crop, not from not being fed).

Have you checked their crops? What kind of bedding do you use? Have you tried raising them on wire?

Just a thought..they may be dying from obesity or related issues. A year old with lower protein and corn diet? When I have processed my older coturnix they have more fat and sometimes organs are enlarged. Kidneys and ovaries enlarged. Some have cysts on kidneys. And I feed mine a 28% game bird crumble from day 1.

I have a large aviary and my quail love to fly around it sometime. When I have found a dead male quail I have always suspected he ran into the wood portion of the structure built to suspend and support the wire-cloth. So that is my thought....broken neck? Even if their enclosure is small, they can spring up and hit their heads. I learned the hard way when I first kept a quail pair in a pet carrier. The male was constantly mating with the female and one night ( I thought for sure he would not bother her in the dark) I heard the thunk and woke up to find the female dead. Im certain she sprung up and hit her head. Now if I use a carrier to house quail I put a cushion ceiling. My first quail pen has a loosely draped sheet top and is inside a secure aviary that is over 8 feet tall. I dont think they hit their heads on the top as they dont fly that high but I have seen them crashing into the wire many times. All it takes is for them to crash into the 2 by 4 part of the structure to break their neck. There is not much I can do about that though.

Since it's happened twice I would guess its something to do with their food or housing. IMake sure that the food is free of mold (no clumps) and the they have clean water everyday, and that there isn't any old or moldy food or dirty water or unsanitary conditions for them to get into. I've had quail die because rotting plants and dirt felt into their water
