HELP NEEDED

There could be many reasons for the chick’s mouth opening. Hatching is an exhausting ordeal; however my main concern would by your heat source. Make sure your chick isn’t over heated.

How can I help w that is it too close ?

If just hatched, the yawning can be from absorbing the yolk sac. Mine did that for about the first 24hrs or so, but I agree that you need to monitor them to make sure they are not overheating.

You want just one warm spot in your brooder, let the rest be cool. Also if you haven't done so, introduce them to their water by carefully dipping their beak.

A lot of folks like to use pine shavings but in the case of hatchlings I think their way too course and very unstable. I use newspaper as a base topped with a couple of layer of paper towels this way the chicks can gain traction and move around freely to find their comfort zone.

Water is also a concern if they are overheated. Although if they can move away from the heat source they should be fine w/o water for at least a day or so.

I use the "fine" pine shaving from tractor supply and I pack them down flat. I also raise quail so the hatchlings are much smaller than chicks. The regular "flake" shavings are way too big for newly hatched quail and I imagine they would be a little big for chicks as well....
