So, my husband and I just caught Violet and examined her again. Now we notice that the growth is HOT to the touch. I hadn't previously noticed this. Doesn't heat often indicate an infection? Here is the pic of the lump again.

My best guess would be cancer, cancerous tissue is hotter than the surrounding tissue due to increased cellular replication and glycolytic flux. I'd say abscess otherwise (because they get hot too from infection) but it's definitely got its own blood supply, and I don't think an abscess would have a blood supply like that.

Abcesses can have blood supply, that is one of the factors that causes it to get bigger, i'd say try sticking a sterilized needle in and gently squeezing it, if only blood comes out, get it to stop and keep it clean, if pus or chunks come out as well, open it up further and flush it out with peroxide 2-3 times, then with warm water 2-3 times, and keep it clean
