All my chicks seem fine I’ve been doing everything right that I know of but when I do my normal stare and take pictures of the chickens for about an hour in the morning routine lol I noticed one of them was making more noise than normal and was itching her eye a bit I looked and it seemed red maybe a bit bloody on the edges?

So I got her out to look she’s one that doesn’t like being held yet so she escaped and I spent 5 minutes running around the garden catching her again so I can have a good look at her eye.

I tuck a few pictures can you please help me is it anything serious? I have done some googling and some people have been washing eyes with salt water and things would this help?

Also I think some other chickens where trying to peek at her eye yesterday maybe they new something was wrong?

Thanks,
KIM

I'm sorry but you pictures don't come up to view. Saline is good to flush or clean the eye, and bacitracin or other antibiotic eye ointment may be used in the eye. Respiratory diseases can cause eye irritation, swelling, and infection. Eye worm which is very rare and usually found in tropical climates where the Surinam roach is found, can cause itching and irritation in the eye. I would use the saline and ointment, and watch for other respiratory symptoms such as nasal drainage, sneezing, gurgle or rattles in breathing.

There are bubbles or foam in the eye, and the eye rim appears slightly swollen. That can be a symptom of mycoplasma gallisepticum or MG, a chronic disease. Did you buy your chicks from a breeder? Antibiotics such as tylosin (Tylan,) erythromycin, tiamulin (Denagard,) and tetracycline can be used to treat symptoms, but the chickens may be lifelong carriers of MG if that is the problem. An eye injury could have caused these symptoms if the chick is not displaying sneezing, lethargy, or nasal drainage. Clean the eye, and apply the ointment or drops recommended above. Here is some reading about MG:
