HELP: newborn injured... what to do?

I'm pretty sure this is the chick that got stepped on by the mama during hatching. One eye has a hard time opening, and mostly stays closed. It also doesn't walk very well, gimpy and crooked (but this could just be because it can only see out of one eye). It seems to have a hard time getting under mama again when it comes out, and she doesn't help it.

Should I do anything to help strengthen it or protect it, or let nature take its course?

The chick was born late Thursday night, so it's about 40 hours old.

I would give it a bit more time to heal on its own, though you may have to intervene if Mom won't help it get back under her for warmth. I think that within a day or so you will either see improvement or not and can go from there. Please check back in and give an update.

you can get sav-a-chick. boost electrolytes and vitamins. heal faster and less likely to die from infection or bacteria.

Chick seems recovered! Both eyes are open, and today it was eating and drinking and quite active. Thanks for the support!
