Help! Newly adopted ducks are gone!

Mrs. Clucky,

If this makes you feel any better, I rescued and raised a mallard and he was able to fly at seven weeks. Maybe these little guys were the same ones and they have learned to fly. I really think sometimes necessity makes them faster learners!

Don't beat yourself up. There is a huge difference between making and honest mistake and deliberately doing something that can cause a problem. You learned a hard lesson. It was not something you did out on purpose. Don't let this put you off duck owning. You can do some research and find out how to avoid a problem in the future. I am sorry this happened to you, it is very sad. But blaming yourself is counterproductive.

If they can fly that well, at least they have a good chance. Sorry you weren't able to get them. We all learn by our mistakes and I'm sure everyone on here including me can say we've made some dozzies. Please don't beat yourself up about it. Hopefully you'll be able to get your drake a pal, and now you'll know how to make them secure. Please let us know if you do, and we love pictures..

Thank you all so much for your very kind words. I really, really appreciate them. And I will indeed seek a pal for Edgar - I would prefer to adopt an unwanted adult duck (all my other animals are rescues). In the meantime, he's hanging out with the chickens and I'll keep an eye out for the little ones.
