Help! i was given some eggs, unsure of age and they have been under my large hen, yesterday morning about 930am i noticed one egg where the chick was nearly out and the other had pipped. So excited as i have had lots of failed attempts with my hens.
So i kept checking on the chick which was nearly out and on my final check she was out of the shell but mumma hen was pecking and trying to kill her, hen was very distraught that her eggs had something come out (i now know it was her who killed other chicks)
I removed this little chick, Managed to get hold of a heat lamp and stuck her under. She had peck holes everwhere so she passed away, i should have rescued her earlier :*( . However i removed the pipped egg as i couldnt trust the hen.
The egg is in a plastic storage basket with a heat lamp and until last night damp cloths and a micrwave warmy teddy to try and keep it damp in there.
There is a big pip hole now and her beak is fully out, but no zip and its over 24hrs. With the damp cloth i have managed to soften the visible membrane, which had become white white. Looking through the hole and around the chick i can see not blood, but lumps of gunk.. i assume this means she is not ready, but i am worried that because her beak is fully out can she still zip? I also worry about shrink wrap as she isnt in a incubator, i dont have a thermometer or humidity controls.
Checking now the mebrane is damp and she looks damp, so i assume my makeshift humidity is working.
