Help odd thing on chicken with pictures)

Hi everybody I just noticed one of our chickens has a weird growth thing on her back . I have no clue what it is help

Leave it alone. It's the oil gland. You should see them on the others as well. Welcome to BYC.

X2...leave it ALONE! Your birds will take their beak and 'gather' some oils from there and use it to 'preen' their feathers...absolutely normal!

No problem at all. Truth be told I'm fairly new to the chicken world, too! But I read and read and read and READ!! The BYC forum boards are absolutely the best. Don't ever feel you're asking a 'silly' question...there is no such thing. Have fun with your flock!!
