We have 4 new additions to the family. They hatched 7 weeks ago in my wife's classroom and seem to be thriving. Being new to chickens, we're pretty much clueless as to who's who and what's what. Roosters would have to go back to the farm so we're hoping for hens. Any help identifying breed and gender would be greatly appreciated...Thanks.

Hmmmm, im no expert...but I will try. The first one..not sure of the breed, but looks like a hen to me. The second one...I would say an Ameracauna/EE hen, the third one...maybe a golden comet....looks like a hen. The last one...either a Barred rock, or Dom....but looks like a hen as well. Maybe someone who knows better can confirm or correct me.

I agree with the others. All four are hens.
The first one looks like it might be a california white hen,

The second is a easter egger hen

The third I would guess maybe a golden comet/sexlink hen

And the last I would guess barred rock hen

It looks like you were very lucky to pick out all hens.

They all look like hens to me, too.

I don't really know the breeds well enough to make guesses, but I have Barred Rocks.. and the girl in the last picture does not look like them. Yes, the coloring is the same, but the tail looks completely wrong.

Thanks for the helpful info (and links) everyone. From what I've learned here on the forum and other sites they do seem to be hens. At nearly 8 weeks I haven't seen any of the physical traits you would expect with roosters. Maybe we got lucky...thanks again for you expertise. They'll all be moving into their new coop (just needs finishing touches) this weekend.

Cali White, EE, Red Sex-Link and that last one could actually be a Cuckoo Maran. Its barring seems pretty smushed together. What color are her legs? They look white to me, Barred Rocks have Yellow Legs.
