Hi,
I have 2 naked necks and 1 cock (I am here in France). I went to the feed store and asked for chicken food and I got a 100 kilo bag for 20.00, but I think it's just scratch. It's like bits of corn and grains. So, I went to another store and got pellets. Do I put the scratch in their feed bowls along with the pellets or do I only feed pellets in the bowls and throw the scratch around. I also give them - oatmeal, lettucs, tomatos, etc...in the morning as treats.

Any advice?

how old are chickens? if chicks you need starter feed, if grown put feed in bowl, and scratch just throw it out to give them something to do

I don't know their exact age. One of the farmers down the road gave them to us first of November and told us they were just about ready to start laying (that's another post, because 1 gave us eggs until end of Dec and now nothing) and the other has never laid.

Do you give them egg shells?

yes you can give them shells, but make sure that they are dryed out and crushed up, orster shell and layer feed and 14 hour aday of light will help them lay eggs, if they are laying they are at least ( in nov 18 to 24 weeks old). for i have a timer for my light to come on for a hour in morning before sun up and two hours after dark to help mine, on the light

I use to put my pellets in the feeder and scratch on the ground. My husband has been in the building mood and he made me some wood feeders so now I put the pellets and scratch in thier own feeders. I don't think I would mix them, I have heard some chickens will throw out what they don't like to get to what they really like and that could waste alot of food. I do feed shells to mine, I just crush them up and throw them in the run.
