Help! Only one chick!

We had something similar happern. We had a maurader in our coop that housed all of our full grown laying hens. They were all killed except one, little, Japanese banty. She was so lonely! We ended up buying a couple of bantam chicks from someone off of Craig's List to keep her company. They moved in with her, once they were old enough and she was thrilled about that. The only problem was that the 2 chicks had not been vacinated and one of them ended up dying of Merek's disease a couple of months later. It was a good thing that my Japanese Banty was vaccinated. The other chick surviived and is now a young laying hen. I would adivse that you be careful of getting chicks from just anyone. Try the feed store and ask about their chicks' vaccinations. Also, McMurray Hatchury now offers young birds in small numbers, even just one, or two. These birds are vaccinated and usually very healthy.

I FOUND CHICKS!! I pick them up Monday. They are a Banty mix. So here is my next question what do you do with a Banty mix?
HURRAY!!!!!! Haha I don't know. I bought a bunch of mixed bantam babies at rural king this spring just because they were so cute. I ended up with sebrights and silkies. The Sebright Roos try to rule the roost but they are no bigger than pigeons lol good luck with my king size Brahma rooster. The silkies lay usable size eggs though. The sebrights probably will too eventually. I'm going to try hatching some chicks next spring with the silkie girl :)

Update; my little fuzzy stayed unconsolable unless I was holding her sooooo, my son suggested putting her with the brooding banty. Hummmm, So around 10 pm I was out in the front yard scrubbing my extra large dog crate out and returning it to my bedroom. I brought Broody in, nest box (med dog carrier) and set it inside the large crate. I let her acclimate for a little bit then introduced the chick. It went like this; CHEEP CHEEP CHeep Cheep chee.......as she snuggled up to broody. Eventually ended up well entrenched under a wing. I think now I just have to make sure she comes out for food and water as Momma is still on her eggs. I think I'll try candling them tonight and see if they are still viable. I'm very bad at keeping dates straight, so I'm not sure how long she's been sitting on this batch.

HOW WONDERFUL that the hen took fuzzy under her wing! :yesss:

DO you have to still take them is my first question. Second one is,if you have to take them, you pull the single chick and put them together.....OR possibly your MAMA hen would take them all in and chuck the eggs under her...Instant family..LOL

I picked the chicks up today and some are Banty some are regular. The guy said a Banty momma hatched them so he thought they were all Banty but clearly all are not. I held my chick while I put the others in the box then put him back in and he stood and looked at them like they were aliens but he quickly took a liking to them. Plus they were born on the same day as mine.
