HELP OUr chicken has something hanging out of her. UPDATE..more pic

I wish someone could tell me for sure what this is! I will push it back in if that is what I need to do, but i don't want to do something that will hurt her either. We are leaving on vacation on thursday, i really hope we can get somehting figured out. I did notice this evening she is still pooping, so i guess that is good.

I don't have any idea. Have you touch it? It looks like plastic. Maybe she got into trash and ate something and is trying to pass it? Hope you get some help .

I was scared to pull on it. BUt I will give it a try. Im not 100% sure how long it has been hanging out like that. A few weeks ago i notice she had something slimy looking on her bottom, but I had a broken egg in a nesting box, so i though it was probably a little egg, my son noticed it yesterday afternoon.

I tried to gental pull on it and got some resistance so I stopped. It goes flat when you hold it. also i don't think its a bowel because she is still pooping.

I just returned your PM, but I thought I would post the same thing here just in case anyone else on the forum had something to add. I also noticed your last post that you felt resistance when you pulled. I think that is because the egg membrane is drying out and kind of stuck. So I think it makes sense to try a warm bath or flushing the vent.

Here is what I wrote in the PM is anybody has something to add:

Sorry about you hen. I checked out your thread and I am glad she is pooping and drinking. I think she is passing an egg that did not develop a shell. Here is one thread that could be helpful: https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=3609985

If
she is acting normal I wouldn't worry about giving a systemic antibiotic, but you might want to flush her vent with warm water mixed with some iodine (mix so it is the color of tea) You can use a syringe or even one of those little plastic craft bottles with a pointy tip.

If she recently started laying, don't worry too much about that part in the linked thread about egg yolk peritonitis. Younger pullets sometimes lay unusual eggs. But it never hurts to add a bowl of oyster shell to ensure everyone is getting enough calcium for strong shells.

Of course this has to happen before you are going on vacation - isn't it always like that?

If you can get that stuff out of her and she is acting normally, I find the best time to return them to the coop is after all the hens have started roosting. That way they will wake up the next morning and act as if she never left the coop.

I hope this helps and she is back to normal soon.

OH I am so glad to hear its nothing to bad! Now that you mention this...there was yoke all over her wing yesteday when we found her. And a little yellowish stuff looked like it was draning out of the "thing:. What is i don't have any iodine, can i just use water? Also she isn't a new layer. She is over a year old. ( a year and mayb 4 months) How is the best way to soak her bum? I used a dropper to wash the poop of this morning. Do you just fill you water up so high that when she is standing he bum is in the water?
