Help our chickens almost died a hawk!

Oh ok can we scarce it away with the BB gun then we are not going to kill it

Others have posted about hanging shiny things like CDs, pie plates, Mylar streamers to keep hawks away. Or netting or a cross crossing of monofilament is supposed to help. I have no experience with these. Just passing along what I read as no one else has responded.

It may not be legal to shoot at or harass hawks either without a permit. Do ask your dad to look into that.

Harassing birds of prey is also illegal in the US. As for whether or not Cooper's hawks can take an adult LF chicken, the answer here is a definite yes. I have lost more birds over the years to Cooper's hawks than any other predator. (Coyotes hold the record for most birds at once - 14.)

This spring I had a Cooper's so hungry it even went through a covering of green garden fencing completely covering a run of juveniles, killing half of them.
