Help!! Out Of Food, Stores Closed ...

Our local Walmart sells chicken feed and horse as well as other feed, and they are open today. Any type of grain will work. A giant thing of oatmeal or cereals will work in a pinch, but is expensive. I'd get wild bird seed, be the cheapest option. Bread of any kind is good, heck a chicken can eat most anything.

Boil a great big pot of rice and salt it down with sunflower and wild bird seeds. Cheap, filling, and good enough for only 3 days. Do leave lots of water.

Thanks for all your thoughtful replies! I made them a gourmet medley of veggies, bread, multi-grain cheerios, and popcorn, and they survived just fine. I do have Walmarts near me, but I've been on a strict boycott for 10 years... leaving only Agway as an option for feed. I hope they'll go back to their regular feed after eating like queens for three days

yeah, mine were pretty disappointed with their great, expensive organic feed after a day of getting a mixture of: leftover sweet potato casserole (with nut/granola top), shredded cheese, oatmeal, stale cereal, flaxseeds, and some yummy fish oil for good measure. i don't think they've ever been so excited to run out of food!

i'm so ld to hear i'm not the only one who does this.. lol...
the 2 closest walmarts to me don't carry livestock stuff... i spose i shouldn't complain because it's still less than a 15 minute drive either east or west to get to one that does.. but sometimes feed and paychecks don't hit on the same day...

i've done the popcorn thing... i will also cook up a pot of pasta for them... my mom for some reason keeps me overstocked on pasta... "look, i got this case of 1200 for 25 cents/ box (i eggsagerate.. but only a little.. lol..)
tomorrow they are getting a huge bowl of rice w/ leftover braised beef from thanksgiving... beef bits and carrots and celery... lol...
mine are used to getting kitchen leftovers so they don't even know i messed up... they think it's normal to get yummy people food..
