Help! Outgrowing Brooder!

Newhenintown@Newhenin I have them in basement. Just turned heat lamp off. Stays about constant mid-60s down there. They seem fine.

If you take them out to the coop and lock them in it they will do a quicker adjustment....Chicks at that age are tough......They will run around and then huddle if cold.....They will love you for the cut of the apron strings!!

Cheers!

Good I was going to suggest turning the lamp off to go ahead and wean them from it and to see how they act. They should be good. What part of Alabama are you in?

They are ready to go into the coop now. To get them acclimated, spend a few days taking them out to the coop during the day. This will get them used to the coop as well as the cooler temps. They have enough feathering, and a little acclimatizing is really all they require and they'll be fine at night huddling together, Silkies included.

You can give them the hot water bottle or a heating pad to snuggle against if you think it's on the chilly side when you first move them in. After a couple nights, they will have adjusted and won't need any extra heat.

Hey I'm in northwest alabama near Florence. The weather has definitely been strange. I have 8 pullets about 6 months old and laying good now. I went crazy and got 17 more! I love them
