Help!! Peachick externally pipped in middle of egg!

Thanks! This is my egg..the one on left. I had taken it out last night & removed the shell piece after noticing it pipped rather explosively in the middle of its shell yesterday. I thought it needed help but when I tried to make an air hole the membrane started to bleed so I stopped & put it back. It was chirping as I put it back. Then I read this thread that says to leave it alone for sometimes 48 hours. This morning it is still same. My concern now is that There doesn’t appear to be an air hole since it looks like the membrane closed/dried. If there is one it’s needle thin. Will it still be able to breath as it prepares for external pip?

Looks ok to me, just be sure to watch for the membrane to turn brown/dry. You can moisten it with Vaseline or coconut oil, or something like that.

Thanks! I sure will. It’s brown around the bloody area. That’s not what you mean though is it?

Correct, if its just dried blood. I mean the inner membrane should stay gray-ish/white-ish color and moist looking. You have some outer membrane showing also, where you chipped off the shell piece. It will dry out faster than the inner membrane will.

Waiting for the chick to partially zip is usually a good idea before you try to intervene. Now that you have make sure the chick is not stuck by using a q-tip and go around the inside of the chip hole making sure the membrane has not stuck to the chick. Soften the q-tip with a little coconut oil first.

If it broke more shell off on its own, then it is likely trying to zip. That’s a good sign! There are often small blood vessels that don’t get absorbed, so a little blood is not a definite sign of impending death. I’d love to see beneath that membrane. Have you seen a beak yet?

No I have not at all. Yesterday when I pulled it out it chirped at me & was moving so I was confident that it was alive & breathing. Today I have no idea

Having chipped off more shell, it was at least alive at that point. I believe this might be a beak. It should be in this area. Shine your light on it, and peck on the window, and watch closely. See if it moves.
