Day 19 for my serama eggs this egg was very dark inside when i put it on lock down on day 17 . I candled them the next day and the air sage grow alot and was going though the middle the big end of the egg and thogh the middle the chick was moving and i thought it initial pipped and after over 24 hrs and i didn't see any thing at all moving when i candled it i pipped the air sage it went to far and cracked the egg a bit the sides and made a kinda big hole but thank goodness didn't get anything or break anything open at this point i thought for sure it was dead looked inside and it still moving and it haven't initial pipped yet i wrapped it up in a wash cloth dump with warm water so nothing but the pip i mads was uncovered and put it back in the incubator. The humidity is at 78 rn and temp 99-100 (force air) have i killed it for sure now? Or is there anything else i can do to try and save it. I never incubated chicken eggs before only guineas and ducks someone please help!!!!!

Don't panic.
If the shell is cracked, is there blood coming from the cracks? If there is no blood and just a hole over the air cell, if the hole is smallish I would just put it back and make sure you maintain that high humidity and temps. Using the damp cloth could chill the egg. If the hole is large, you could try carefully applying a small amount of coconut oil or olive oil with a cotton bud to the inner membrane to keep it from drying out.
The chick should be fine. Leave it in the incubator. It should be able to hatch by itself.

Hi, hope you are enjoying BYC! :frow

I think you MISSED the point of lock down. :hmm

So far EVERY time I got anxious and tried to make something happen... I killed the chick or at least signed its death warrant. :barnie

It's extremely hard not to open the incubator! I don't know if Serama are any different.. but I don't see why they would be and my Silkies ALL hatch on day 21.

I personally would put it back in and leave it alone, keep the humidity up.

How are your other eggs doing? How many? :fl :jumpy

To be clear, you made a hole in the shell? Is the membrane inside still intact?
Yes that what i did. And yes it is perfectly fine (thank goodness) and no blood or anything like thar just the hole on the air sage it isn't to big but it isn't that small either it about the size of a pinky finger

Only 2 made it to lock down and yes i know I'm terrible at not opening it cus my nerves get shot thinking it needs help . I have 22 more eggs going into lock down on Saturday and then 12 more next week (I'm using a rite model 3600 as a Hatcher) these are my only two serama eggs tho. And when i looked it every where said they hatch on day 19

Practice... my hatch rates are up. Don't open the bator from lock down until you are ready to move fluffy chicks. The risk to any other that hasn't hatched is to great. Have you heard of shrink wrapping? If they can't hatch without you causing them issues (and I don't mean to sound mean I make my share of issues) then they really have genetic weakness.

I will go out on a limb and say your trying to make them hatch too early...

Yes i went though shirk wrapping with a keet. And yes i kinda was trying to rush it but it was in the air sage which with other eggs that died. I cracked them open and found there were nowhere near the air sage. This one is bit is still not initial pipped? Idk much about chicken eggs so i could be wrong of course

I've heard that seramas are supposed to hatch earlier around day 19 but personally I think this is incorrect. My serama (just the one was fertile from ebay eggs) hatched absolutely perfect on day 21. You shouldn't worry with any eggs until at least day 22 with no sign of internal pips, as long as you candles before lockdown and saw correct development.

Good luck with your hatch! Hope the little serama makes it out ok. With a pinky finger sized hole in the shell it should be fine as long as the humidity stays as high as you said it was. I'm rooting for the little guy/girl!
