HELP PLEASE,, ADDED INFORMATION. Thanks!

I honestly dont think she is sick at all. She most likely has something lodged in her trachea. It could be gapes, but check and see. Gently palpitate her throat starting at the base of her beak and work down, you may feel it if she has something stuck. Or take a flashlight and look down her throat. this is your best bet to see if she has something down there. When you do this, make sure her head is completely straight with her trachea...you want to be able to see all the way down there. (let me know if you have trouble doing this, I can give more details) If you see something in there, it will be obvious. You will be able to see the gapes if thats what she has.
However if you dont see anything, you may have a bigger problem.

I had a large marans rooster that did the same thing, and out of no where he starts gasping. I did the above, and he didnt have anything stuck in his throat. About a week later he died, and I did an autopsy to find that he had an enlarged heart and fluid in his lungs.

Please answer these:

1) What was she doing when you first noticed her gasping, and how long ago
2) Had she just eaten/drink
3) Has she always been a laxidasical bird, active but kind of more quiet than the rest
4) Do you hear rattling in her breathing
5) How old is she
6) How many and how long have you had birds that are related to her
7) Are any of the others showing symptoms

It seems that many people are leaning towards gape, so I definitely think investigate it! But, in addition, you say that her crop feels a little squishy. It is feels more like a water balloon oppose to a bean bag (bean bag is good), then try massaging it downward (not upwards as it may cause aspiration). You may hear gurgling and she may burp something foul.

In my opinion, add some apple cider vinegar with mother (usually in the health food stores and some health food sections of grocery chains). It will help treat sour crop if it is that and if not, it helps break down any mucus if it is a respiratory issue. It may help with whatever is going on until you can figure it out! It should buy you a little time if anything.

Even regular AVC is better than nothing! Just use a glass or plastic bowl as metal becomes corroded by the ACV. It'll add nutrients and vitamins to her as well!!

Hope you figure it out soon!!

Hey guys thank you for the responses. A person who sold me a different bird saw her in lieu of a vet on memorial day. She suggested that after the rains (and we have had rains ) that maybe she contracted a little infection. Dalilah got a shot of 1cc Tylan 50 while I get her to the vet tomorrow. I checked on here about 6 hrs later in her pen and she doesnt seem to be getting better (is that too soon?) She seems like she honks and then takes a long deep breath through her mouth. I still cannot detect any sort of fluid coming from her nose. But her breathing does sound more labored.

Re: the crop. I was mistaken about the feel and the last poster nailed it. It feels like a bean bag and after touching some of the other birds I understand what it should feel like. Its not balloon like.

1) What was she doing when you first noticed her gasping, and how long ago.
Noticed her today in the early aft, she was just hanging out in the yard being Dalilah

2) Had she just eaten/drink
Yes and Yes

3) Has she always been a laxidasical bird, active but kind of more quiet than the rest.
She's always been friendly since I raised her but today she is letting me handle her like shes got nothing to lose. Before I would have to reach to grab her now she just stands there, definitely a change of behavior. Again, just starting at about 1pm.

4) Do you hear rattling in her breathing
Hard to describe but yes, either a slight rattle or a gurgly sound. Its more of like if you honk on an exhale and take deep loud breaths through your mouth. Akin to a snore followed by a deep mouth breath. Long and paused.

5) How old is she
5months

6) How many and how long have you had birds that are related to her.
None related to her. A new group of 3 chicks from different moms added about a week ago. They are fine, though I guess I failed the most important test. Quarantine.

7) Are any of the others showing symptoms
No.

Well, I hope she's doin ok. I have had hens choke on long pieces of grass, or strands of hay, sometimes a hen cant process big balls of that stuff. Keep us posted!

I strongly suggest you treat her with ivermectin to rule out or confirm gape worm.

I use the injectible type. It is quite expensive, but should last you a few years depending on your flock size. Put 1 1/2 cc/ml per gallon of water to treat for worms.
