Well, from my days of raising mice and rats, it looks too big to be a mouse, or at least not a house mouse. You may have some other local mice that are bigger. I can tell you with certainty that it is NOT colored like a common rat or mouse. This animal is going to be agouti with cream or white belly. The dark pigmented parts will be agouti - wild rat/rabbit/mouse color - cant tell if it will be a grey agouti or a brown but agouti. I'm leaning towards squirrel, based on that additional info.

I've thought all along that it's a very young baby squirrel. As someone else said it's too large to be a mouse and not have the eyes open and more fur. I know that squirrels will move their babies after they have them, especially if the first locations turns unsuitable or too busy. I think you've got a squirrel.

I was given three squirrel "pinkies" to rehab. The head looks similar but going from memory, this is too small and is showing fur too soon to be a squirrel. I know you can see the fur coming in on rats within a few days but I don't remember what their heads look like.

IMO it is not a squirrel.

im alsmot certain its not a rat pup...and too big to be any mouse species ive ever seen...

ill keep looking but to me it looks like a 3 day old grey...but again i dont rehab squirrels...i have raise many rat pups though and it realy doesnt strike me as a ratty....

you know what...i wonder if mabe its a VERY young possum?
right color, right posture...
it would be too young to be out of pouch on its own...but...

I just found this thread and I just have to say.....AWWWWEEEE!!! How adorable! You are doing such a great thing by helping this little baby. I am going to say that it is a squirrel. It is to big to be a mouse, and the ears arent right (mice and rats have rounded ears, your baby has pointed ears like a squirrel). I dont think it is a rat either, it just looks to big. Anyway I really hope it survives, whatever it may turn out to be it will be a very big accomplishment that you will forever be proud of. Great job so far!
