Hi, this is my first post in a long time here. I lurk a lot, and have learned TONS in the past few years.
I picked up 4 chicks sent from my pet chicken last Wednesday. They are 8 days old now. EE bantam, blue Andalusian, black giant, and a blue Cochin.
Everyone was fine until today. This morning I noticed that my blue Cochin chick was hanging out in the other end of the brooder, alone. She is not being as active as the other three at all. She had no interest in water or food. I brought her upstairs, checked for pasty butt (was clean), mixed up some electrolytes and got those into her with an eye dropper. I crumbled up some cooked egg yolk but she wasn't interested.
I separated her and provided a heat lamp. I'll be sad if she dies, I have wanted a blue Cochin for 4 years.
I can't figure out what is the issue. She seems to be standing and breathing heavier than she should, and her vent is pulsing a lot. Less than this mornkng, but still pulsing. Also, she sounds the tiniest bit congested. They are all on an organic starter crumble.
Can anyone weigh in on what else I could be doing or what the issue might be? I know they sometimes die for reasons unknown, but I want to be sure I tried everything.
Thank you.
