Help please :( Cloudy eye

My poor girl has a cloudy eye! Not sure if it’s related but her bum was a tiny bit dirty and her tail feathers are looking a bit tattered. Any ideas? She just doesn’t seem herself though she has been laying (only her 3rd egg ever, she is 18 weeks) and eating and drinking and is fairly vocal.

Pretty girl! I’m sorry, but really have no idea on this one. @azygous, didn’t you have a hen with a cloudy eye in the past? Was her name Lucy? Was it from that virus your flock carries? (lymphoid leucosis?)

How'd you get your memory to work that slickly, @micstrachan ? Yes, Lucy was an EE and she had pink eye to begin with. It quickly went cloudy and then filmed completely over. She was a case I lost and never did figure out what was wrong. She went downhill so fast, and in spite of trying three different antibiotics, I had to euthanize her.

This hen may have an eye infection that would respond to an eye ointment or it could also be Marek's. All I can suggest is flushing the eye with saline and using terramycin ointment or Neosporin in the eye twice a day.

If it clears up it's just an infection. If not, it's something above our pay grade.

Thank you! It looks a bit better today. I used some of m dogs eye ointment on it. Still cloudy but almost just a streak. Mareks scares me as her brother just died about 2 weeks after we rehomed him and my silkie is walking around with his head at a 90 degree angle. They do have lice though which we will be treating today.

It is strange that it looks like it is only on half of the eye. Could that be her nictitating membrane (3rd eyelid,) as in this link:

I don’t think so but I’m not totally sure. Today it looks more like a streak but it could just be that I’m viewing it in the day. I put an eye moisturizing drop in which did not go over well...
