Help please hen w/ bad ongoing skin condition.

It looks like she was a hard broody before you got her. I have had some that looked like plucked turkeys from chin to vent for a long time. I would go easy with high protein, too much can cause other issues but adding some is good. You could try giving her some vitamin E gel caps broken into her food. Vit E is good for the skin. Flax is also good in small amounts. The browning of the feathers is normal when they are aged.

He did keep saying how great for broodies they were. I wonder if he let them sit non-stop? I'll do a little flax and vit e in her diet as well. Thanks so much for the tips. :) That would also explain the malnourished look they had. That and hardly any food and only corn. Ohhhh gosh. Poor babies.

Thanks so much for the help!

Did you ever figure this out? How is she? I have two hens that started with a molt....but 5 months later....the feathers have not grown back...bare necks and really light feathering on their chest and bums. Now another hen is starting to molt, but I worry it is the same thing....They look an absolute fright!!! But, don't seem to care....are happy, active and social. I feed them an organic feed....which I suspect is lacking in nutrients (but I dare not feed them conventional feed with the health problems I have and not wanting to eat the eggs if I do). But, I supplement them every day with veggie and fruit scraps, scrambled eggs, egg shells, meal worms, yogurt and free range time. Ihave searched them hi and low for mites and come up with nothing. I have a mouse in the coop that the ladies refuse to kill....and now I'm wondering if he is eating the feathers off them? I am now making them sweaters for winter....

I would love to know how your hen is doing and if she ever grew her feathers back. Thanks!
