I got 2 Ameracauna hens from a friend ten days ago. They haven't laid an egg yet. I know one is a y/o and the other is 2 ys/o. So age isn't a problem. I've heard it may be from stress since they have to get used to my roo and from moving. But I thought that would only last a few days. Boy was I wrong! I've been feeding them just strait layer mash. But the should still lay eggs. Its been over 100 degrees here the last month just about. I've noticed ever since I got them they have been panting and doing that droopy wing thing. So I know they are very hot. I keep them in the shade a lot, which seems to help a little.

Any help would be apreciated!

Good luck I have EEs and Ameraucanas that are over 9 months old and have never laid an egg. I suppose I should send them to Camp Stew.

Well, like you said, it's 100 degress, that's hot!

We have had some terribly hot and humid weather here this past week and my hens have really slacked off in their egg production too. I have several that are setting and those that are not have not been laying too many eggs this past week. I think we can pretty much blame it on the heat...as for helping them to keep cool, there are a lot of good ideas about this here on this site. For my silkies, I have a small child's swimming pool in their pen and keep a couple of inches of cold water in it. They like to wade and splash around in it to cool off!

If mine go 9 months without laying, we will have at least 6 days of chicken for dinner...

Blessings,
