my duck just hatched at 29 days it still has the umbilical cord attached what should I do it was moving and breathing but not as often now I have a 40 watt lightbulb above it I put a wet washcloth around it making sure not to cover the head. I have it in a box with a towel on the bottom what should I do please help
I have not had that happen, but I've seen that The Hatchers sometimes make a donut shaped washcloth, duckling in the center, and they wait for duckling to absorb the yolk. I don't know if you need the washcloth wet. In fact seems like that might cause a chill and you want duckling warm. Post in the Emergencies Thread and look for Hatchers. Aoxa comes to mind, Desert Darlene, Amiga, Haunted55 and of course Miss Lydia - all of those folks can probly provide you with more/better info than I can. Hope your duckling pulls thru. Sorry not much help.
I am not a hatcher, but have read some of the threads. I think keeping the duckling warm and moist enough and letting it rest, it ought to absorb the yolk.
