Help Please- my chick is 8 weeks old

I hope your little sweety is o.k. I just wanted to mention that chickens really do need other chickens in order to thrive. I hope you'll consider getting him/her some friends.

I have white cochin chicks that looked that same way when they were in the "teenage" ugly stage. LOL I think your chick is completely fine. Mine went through that same ugly stage...looked almost the same as your "it". It may be the white birds just look bad at this stage.

Looks like the adolescent males I have wandering around my house with hair in patches starting to poke out in all kinds of directions. My 8 to 12 week old chicks fit right in with my boys and looked just like yours! Remarkable how "ugly" they are as adolescents when they were cute babies and great adults. I guess it happens in all species.

I wish I knew! My neighbor came over and swears it's a she because of the tuft over her rear end. He showed me his beautiful hen who also has the comb and gribbler thing (what's it called?!) and says mine's a female. In any event, he/she is looking much better. I changed a few things so I am not sure which one did the trick or whether there was anything wrong with him/her from the beginning.
