How do you get your chickens to open their beaks to take the vitamins?

I just hold them and using my fingernail, gently pry open their beaks. It takes a while to get it done. Or, I make a mash with their food, just a tiny bit and mix it in with it. They chomp is down and voila the vitamins are gone

So I gave her some Poly.....how do you take a temp on a chicken? I did it under the wing and came up with 105.7, thats a little under normal so Im thinking the wing wasnt the best place.

I am getting differing opinions as to what the normal body temp of a chicken is...here is one source that I found that shows your chicken is overheated...

So you think she might have a fever? I ahve her on antibiotics like the vet said to do, along with the poly. I dont know if there is much else I can do for her. She sometimes closes her eyes and wavers on her legs like shes trying to sleep but about to fall over. Sometimes she snuggles down and tries to sleep and leans over on her good leg.

She does seem to be breathing heavily, and sometimes I think she might ahve a nasal blockage because that bit of skin between the beak and the eye flutters when she breaths. But there is no discharge at all. Thats when I hold her in my lap, I think my heat makes her over heat.

Yeah, chicks overheat easy in peoples' laps

With the wavering, sometimes healthy chicks do that. In that situation you could just push down on her back a little to get her to lie down. Over time they should learn but if you want them to be off the ground you can give the chick a little log she can perch on. Good luck!

I tried to giver her her poly this morning and some went down the wrong tube. I was being very careful but she struggles so much! I hope I ahvent made her worse now

Well I think she is fine, she isnt wheezing..phew! In fact she spent 2 minutes chirping and telling me off as loudly as she could, so i think thats a good sign, cuz she can at least breath strong enough to shout.

She stands on her bad leg and scratches her neck with her good leg...that must be a good sign. But when i squeeze her middle toe on that leg really hard, she doesnt seem to notice it.
