Hi. I just went outside to check to see if I had an Quail eggs, and I noticed blood all over one of them. Frantic, I looked through my Quail, and one of them has blood all over her butt. I've never raised Quail before, I'm not sure what to do. I don't want to grab her and hurt her, they are jumpy when we reach into the cage. What can I do???

#1 GET IT OUT OF THE PEN!! but if you would tell us what kind of quail, it may help! In most cases it's pecking.. meaning one in there is being cranky.. and if left in the pen, it only gets worse with the visual of blood!

First thing is to get her out of the pen! Look to see if any has blood on their beaks/face. If so, more than likely it's pecking.. although I've never had that problem in coturnix.. there is some other causes but that's where I would start!

There's no blood on any of the other quail. There's a spot of blood in the cage where I found the egg, and on her butt. I'm really not sure what to do.
I thought maybe the male "mated" with her too roughly? Or maybe she tried too hard to lay an egg? I don't know..I'm worried.

It seems that she laid her egg and that caused the bleeding. Separate her from the rest and put a hot cloth on her butt to relax the muscles a bit. If you have some preparation H you can put a little on her bum if there is swelling.

Could Also Be A Broken Pin Feather.. Its Molting Season.. I Had 1 With A Broken Feather On The Right Wing Yesterday.... Looked Like Somebody Had Bathed 1/2 Of It In Blood (white Quails Really Show Dirt And Things Like Blood...

) Upon Closer Inspection It Looked As Though She Had Just Been Preening The Blood Feather A Lil Too Agressively And It Broke Below The Blood Line, So Bleeding Ensued. Aside From The "what The Heck?!" Factor It Was Harmess

Seperate Her And See If You Can Assess The Source.. Maybe Something Simple As A Broken Feather, Or May Be Superficial Tears In The Soft Inner Skin Of The Vent--- Was The Egg Exceptionally Large? If So This Is More Likely.. Also Make Sure They Have Plenty Of Fluids At All Times Now That The Weather Is Warming Up... If They Dehydrate Well... There's No Secretions To "lube" The Vent And That Can Do This As Well. (these Would Actually Be More Like Skid Marks That Bleed

Either Way Pull Her Out And Keep Her Out Until All Bleeding Stops--- Blood Pushes An Ugly Button In The Agression Center Of A Gamebird's Brain And Makes Them Do Stupid Stuff Like Go Pirranha On The Bleeder...

I got the same issue with my chinese dwarf quails.. Yesterday one died in my hand because I noticed her butt was bleeding and he was falling over, so I took him out to clean his butt but it was too late already.. Today, I see bleeding butts with all my other quails, except for one male and female. I saw them pecking al the other ones so unfortunatly, it's the sad, nasty truth..

Hi, one of my female quail have bleeding butt and her eggs was covered in blood. I separated her from the other quails. When she hatched the egg, she sounded loud. What should I do now? Should I put a warm compress on her ass? What's wrong with her? Thanks for your help.
