Help please! Rooster swallowed fishing line with hook attached!!

Oh man, I think that is the only thing you can do....let me think this through for a moment...if you cut it, you lose your line, literally. If you don't, he is going to be even more uncomfortable...He certainly can't pass the entire think, lead and all....so, I say cut off as much as you can...as long as you are sure that it is in his stomach....man, I'll send up some prayers for his recovery. I'm feeling a little nauseated for you....

Well i know its in there pretty deep, and i dont think anything is gonna help right now but to let him try to pass it, ill just check on him every single second!! Im gonna cut the line a bit, i hope i dont lose him, i love him so much!!!

Have faith, it's amazing how attached we get to these feathered critters!....wonder if a little olive oil or something would help it slide out?

Thanks so much for jumping in and helping!!! I've never had anything swallow a hook before!

If hook gets past gizzard, then passing through balance if intestinal tract should be rapid as in a few hours. Even if hook catches in digestract lining, necrosis around barb can free it allowing further movement down stream. This would be a time where use of anti-biotics is prudent.

I routinely work with fishes and turtles that swallow hooks. I want survival so best action for me is to cut line and let critters digestive tract pass offending obstruction. Birds like chickens different but hopefully similar enough to allow passage with minimal harm. Think of the odd stuff ostriches are known to consume.

Man, I'm glad I don't have an ostrich
