One of my chickens has a smelly vent two days ago and is still now. There is yellow stuff around the vent and the feathers and not fluffy they are dirty. She also had watery white and yellow poop. She’s not active much and didn’t lay any eggs. She’s drinking a bit and eating a bit. I gave her a quick Epsom salt bath and put some polysporin cream hoping it would work. Please help any advice?!

How old is she? Do you know when she last laid? Feel her abdomen (compare with others if you are not sure) below the vent, between the legs. Does it feel bloated at all, either very firm or water balloon like? Is her crop empty, full, soft & squishy, hard, etc?

She’s a year old. She hasn’t laid for days. Her abdomen isn’t bloated. Her crop is empty with a bit squishy stuff.

Re-check her crop first thing in the morning before she's had anything to eat/drink - it should be flat/empty. If it's not empty, then you can begin addressing her crop. Read this article along with the comments to help access which treatment you need to follow. Let us know what you find out. (Empty with squishy stuff is not empty is it(?) possible sour crop)

Very often if a crop is not emptying, then there's an underlying illness/condition that is causing the digestive system to slow. Could be a partial blockage, reproductive disorder, infection, worms and/or coccidiosis among other things.

Consider taking a sample of poop for testing to see if worms are an issue. Some vets are agreeable, some not. If you can't get a fecal float, then de-worming her may be of benefit to her. Safeguard can be found at TSC. Dose is 0.25ml per pound of weight given orally once a day for 5 days.

Do check her over for lice/mites while you are determining if her crop is emptying.

Her not laying eggs for days - unless she's molting, then this a concern. She may be starting to have some reproductive problems. Which one, it's hard to guess. I would start with checking the crop, looking for lice/mites, deworming and go from there.
