Help please-sick hen

To me, it means good!:)

I would say if she had always laid normal looking eggs, the pointy would say there is inflammation, but it's good she was able to pass an egg regardless. The blood clot, well that gets incorporated as the egg material moves along the oviduct, so...that's o.k. there's nothing you can do about that. There was no yolk though?

I would continue with the antibiotics and see how it goes. It does seem like she may have had an egg stuck in the oviduct then, but it's odd that the vet would have said EYP for that.

Thank you so much for your support with this! I agree it's hopeful... The vet is just a complete disaster! You've helped me more! However.. now she's walking around opening mouth wide. Worrying it's a crop issue like you said could happen.

Is it open mouthing breathing/panting or labored breathing?

Check her crop first thing in the morning to see if it's empty.

She's not doing well again. Just sitting in corner of coop and her tail pumping. I just don't want her to be in pain...wish I knew what to do! I love her but don't want her hurting

Some breeds have significant reproductive issues. Often, those that lay the most, have the most problems. I see from your original post that she's RIR, that's one of the heavy-hitters when it comes to production. You may elect to treat her as if she's simply egg bound again and pray for good results like last time or... If you cull, or if she dies, please do a necropsy on her. It will go a very long way in comforting you to know for certain if it was cancer, salpingitis, egg yolk peritonitis etc, egg binding (although simple egg binding has pretty much been ruled out by it happening again, and happening again SO soon after expelling her last bound egg, leading me to believe there's an underlying cause). I can direct you to some good youtube videos on the subject of necropsy of chickens if worst comes to worst. I'll keep you and your feathered family in my prayers.

I'm sorry that she is not doing well :hugs

I would check her to make sure she is not egg bound. Since the other one was stuck and took several days, she could very well have the same problem again. Some hens do have repeated problems with egg binding.
Do what you can to get her hydrated, offer her some extra calcium and if she is not lethargic or having labored breathing give her a soak in a warm epsom salts bath.

Ok, thank you so much!!! I'll try everything again!

I'm starting to wonder if I'm missing something else. My other 3 girls aren't laying very often either...and the last egg I got was almost white, they have always been brown.
They are also all missing alot of feathers...I've checked for mites but what if I'm missing them???

What do you feed them?
How old are they?

Do you have photos of the feather loss? I don't recall where you are in the world are you in the US or another country?

The almost white egg could just be a glitch - most all eggs are white (except for true blue egg layers), while that egg is in the shell gland it gets dye applied. Sometimes for some reason, the dye is not applied. As the year goes by, sometimes eggs can get a little lighter as well.

Molt? Not uncommon to happen yearly. Cold weather country? Can severely reduce production during cold months due to less than 14 - 16 hours of light. Feather picking due to stress or boredom? Stress can be just about anything, high predator count, too hot, too cold, too many birds, not enough space, over mating rooster, kids or pets frequently teasing them through a fence (you get the idea, stress can be a lot of things). How old are the chickens? After about 2 years (more or less) your high egg-production breeds drop production significantly. To check for mites wear light colored gloves and while holding your chicken gently pet and ruffle the underside of the tail feathers (over the vent) and also in her armpits (wing pits?). This should be a pleasant experience for your birds. Visually, you're looking for finely ground "pepper" trapped in their fluffy downy part of the feathers and/or on your gloves when complete. Don't automatically assume if you find 'dirt' that it's mites... but don't automatically discount it as DIRT either. Is that dirt moving? Unconcerned about the color of the egg; the hen that laid it might have had an extra dose of calcium rich food prior to laying, which will put a white haze on them, in addition to Wyorp Rock's observation about coloring; so there's two votes against panicking over the color of that random egg :drool
