Hi Shelley, welcome to BYC! The hen determines the sex. Perhaps setting eggs from different hens will help your ratio. It doesn't help me. I tend to get a massive amount of cockerels each year, no matter who's eggs I set.

Hi Janiedoe thank you for your advise. Karen's clutch was created by 4 hens 2 eggs each so I'm glad that I gave them a good chance to start with aswell as only choosing the least pointy eggs.

My only problem know is learning how to deal with too many cockerells. I cry every time i have found a dead chick no matter how many days or weeks it survived. Is homing roos easy or do I need to listen to my dad and as soon as I've a small twinkling that it's a roo cull because I've always struggled with the idea of destroying something I created. I said if I ended up with more roos then hens this year I won't try again.

Welcome. You could have one heck of a nice big bachelor pad. If you do, just make sure they are away from the hens and they will get along just fine.
