Help please

Welcome to BYC! I would refer you to the threads and reviews on different chicken breeds. In addition, look at doing a search for integration of chickens. That should help you on your journey!:welcome:caf

Buff Orpingtons, definitely have my vote. The hens are gentle natured, good broodies, not good free rangers and prefer to stick close to the coop with the exception of going out for the occasional pig out on grass and bug fest along with a dust bath.

Definite pecking order with other, smaller hens but get along well with birds their own size. Roosters, compared to others can be gentle also. I've raised 6 or more cockerels. 2 were a bit of the 'stinker' but I culled them and kept my gentlest boys.

Just about any breed will get along if they have enough room, a good diet, and are well housed. Buff Orpingtons are a good starter breed. Stay away from the rare breeds and the game breeds. Good luck and Merry Christmas!

I'm not sure how the Australorp would act around a Silkie. One of my chickens tends to be more dominant than the other but they are both very protective of each other.
