so basically I was an idiot! I had 5 duck eggs in an incubator and 4 of them hatched there’s one left in the incubator and it was moving and peeping and it stoped for about 8 hours and I googled what to do and i read that the duckling could suffocate so I put a small hole in the shell along the crack that’s been there sense day one. But I got the membrane and the duck started to bleed so I freaked out and started doing research on this amazing site and someone said once to dab at the blood with a Q-tip and get the blood to stop. So I did but wondering did I just kill the duckling by trying to save it?! Or will the little guy be ok?!?!? Any help is much appreciated thank you

Welcome to BYC! How much did it bleed? If it was only a little bit, the duckling would be fine, but it needs more time in the shell to finish absorbing the yolk, etc. Can you see its bill and is it moving, breathing, etc, o.k. in there?

I had a similar situation with a chick. I found a video on YouTube on how to get the chick out of the egg. She bled a lot, but lived and grew up to be a healthy hen. So I advise you to check YouTube. FYI, the process of getting her out of the egg took an hour.

Good luck,
Michelle

It was only a tiny bit of blood it took a bit to stop but it’s not bleeding anymore it’s moving a bunch and I didn’t see the bill at all I think it’s facing the other direction

It seems to be doing o.k. :) I'll give it time now, a few hours at least, and see how it does. Please let us know how things go!
