If she's externally pipped she should be okay. It normally takes over 48 hours for ducklings to go from pip to zip.Hi again..
The duckling that is on day 28 is trying to pip through the shell but below the air sac! There’s a tiny hole..
What do I do? Do I need to help her? She’s moving still but at the bottom of the egg not at the top near the air sac.
The other one has died I’m sirethere is bruising around the shell now that is clear from the outside even without candling!
Part of me feels that I need to try and get the other one out soon to give it half a chance?! Xx
My incubator has broken..
It’s Sunday and the shops were about to shut. So I managed to source a styrofoam box, heat mat and hydrometer and thermostat…however, I can’t stabilise the temp or humidity! The duck eggs are day 27 and 24..both still alive, the day 27 one is trying to pip the inner membrane.
Current temp 32..then 38.5..then drops again! How can I decrease the humidity too? It’s currently 85%
I’m so worried. Any help gladly taken right n
Even if you can't see movement, keep incubating the Day 25 just in case, especially if you still see veins. Veins are life. The bigger one may just be resting more as it gets ready to hatch. I know it's hard to be patient while you worry about them. When you've done everything you possibly can, let nature do the rest. They can take 30-35 days to hatch sometimes, too, so give them lots of time. Wishing you all the best! Thanks, will have a look at those!
I can still see veins on the day 25 one but no movement
The day 28 one was actively trying to pip yesterday but not doing it today, she’s moving though not as active as she has been. She doesn’t look like she’s near the air sac now though..that’s what worries me.
No bruising on the shell - is that good? What would it be if there was? Xx
If there are still normal looking veins, the day 25 seems to be alive, the baby may just have been sleeping when you checked last-Thanks, will have a look at those!

That is interesting! Not going to lie that kinda grosses me out lol- I had a quail chick pass away in the shell, and gave her a little burial underneath my apple tree. It felt right to do thatI saved four of them, but the others were gone. I think I couldve saved them if I got there sooner but i‘m not massively experienced with incubating, and you never know if you’re gunna do more harm than good. One chick was still breathing as I opened the membrane. Then there was nothing so it literally took it’s last breath a moment too soon
I hope people dont get funny about this but the dead chicks didnt go to waste. My cats are raw fed and love a day old chick as treat. They were already dead anyway, so I might as well find a use for them. I think they loved how fresh and still warm they were. Only thing is I forgot to close the living room door and one cat took one in and got yolk all on the carpet :| not fun to clean up lol.
oh no! What made you open the eggs? Did you do eggtopsies on both? They have both died
The day 28 one - his yolk was still huge..almost as big as him, it had got its head stuck, tucked underneath himself and the yolk was then covering him!
He was tiny..perfectly formed but so so small.
The other one, as soon as I opened the egg you could see it was deformed
I’m so sad.
I'm so sorry. Could you take pictures? They have both died
