Help! Please!!

My gut says she’s having reproductive issues or possibly toxicity from the deworming (since two are ill) or a combo of the two. But I am unsure how long heatstroke symptoms would last and if they’d be up and down like they’re showing. I would think they’d be well on the road to recovery if they had gotten heatstroke yesterday, and it wouldn’t be cyclical since they’re out of the heat today.

The best advice I can give is to try to keep her (them) hydrated well, keep on top of giving calcium every day for a while for Peaches and try to get them a to eat a bit if possible. If it’s heatstroke, this should pull them out of it. If it’s toxicity, this should also help pull them out of it. If it’s egg binding or other reproductive issues, this should also help that. @Wyorp Rock may have better advice.

Im so sorry there isn’t a straightforward solution to what they’re going through. I hope they both pull through okay.

Has she showed anymore signs of laying an egg? And how are the rest of your hens?

Yeah, I agree with you. I did overdose my chickens with chicken fenbenazole on the first 2 days. But they seemed fine, my smallest hen (Beaky) is completely fine as well and I overdosed her aswell... I am trying my very best to keep them fed and hydrated, it is a hassle.

Regarding the reproductive issue, I dont think its that because they are both showing the same symtoms. Snooze never had a problem with her egg, but nock on wood.

Peaches sometimes shows signs of making an egg but as of right now, (im letting them walk around the kitchen) she is preening, so no, as of right now no signs of eggs.

Yes, the rest of my flock is doing well. I find it intresting that Snooze and Peaches are 2 of my lightest chickens, (Besides Beaky) and they are having problems with the heat. (If its that.) My 3 biggest hens are completely fine.

The hen that I suppose might be egg bound just pooped, so I inserted a picture of it. Is there a reason she stands head tucked in her wing?

Some chickens tuck their heads when they sleep normally, it must be comfy. Some do it when they’re uncomfortable and trying to rest. Maybe to block out the light like we do when we don’t feel well. In the cold weather they’ll tuck their head to keep their combs and wattles warm.

Regarding toxicity, it may be more so from the worms dying and releasing toxins, rather than overdosing, at least that is the way it is described in the thread I linked yesterday. Maybe they had a larger worm load than the others and being smaller, it might just be tougher on them.. It’s hard to say if this is the issue.

Have you seen anymore worms in their droppings?

I hope Peaches and Snooze both start to feel better and there aren’t any reproductive issues involved for either of them.

It still sounds like Peaches may have had trouble laying recently, keeping up with calcium for a few days should not hurt her in anyway.

Your hens have cute names. I hope with supportive care whatever is going on resolves. Have you tried wetting their feed down into a mash? My hens think that is a treat.

Ohh okay. Peaches made a huggge comeback. I went for a 40 minute walk and left Peaches and Snooze out with the flock and when I came back. Snooze was laying on the ground lethargic while Peaches was having a blast with her friends! Now they are back in their cage and Peaches is pecking on Snooze, talking, sticking her head through Snoozes legs??? And just overall seems almost 100%. Snooze on the other hand is better, but still pretty lethargic.

No, I have not seen any more worms in their poops and im starting to agree with what you think about the worms being the problem. These two are always face to face (they sleep under eachother..) so they probably both had a decent amount of worms. I'll keep up with the calcium on Peaches.

Thanks!! I try and keep their names very exotic.. One of my chickens names in the past was Chi-Rex. Lol she was big. Right now Snooze is sleeping in my lap while Peaches settles down. Yes, I did wet their feed but they sadly didnt want it. I put feed and yogurt in a bowl, mixed it, and then fed it to them. They enjoyed it that way.

Try to get them to eat their normal feed.
Be sure they are drinking.

Continue with the Calcium.

Has Snooze laid an egg? If not, then I'd start her on Calcium too.
Alright. I added water to their feed and they ate almost the whole bowl. They are drinking. No Snooze has not laid an egg, but she always lays one, then takes a day off.

So, I have really good news and unfortunately, bad news...

This morning Peaches was doing absolutely great! She was eating, itching to get out, talking, etc.. (She walked all the way across my kitchen...) So we took her to her friends and she is so happy to be back with them.

Unfortunately, when I woke up, and went to grab Snooze. She hardly couls stand. At max she stands for 2 seconds and then just lays down again like a pancake. Her crop did not empty, so I fed her coconut oil and massaged her. What could this mean?? She was doing good last night.

Another thing, I have been massaging her crop with coconut oil and I fed her some. Her crop isnt emptying. Do I give it time? What else can I do?

She also layed a good egg in her cage.

So glad to hear about Peaches! But I’m sad to hear about Snooze. It’s good she laid an egg.

It will usually take multiple rounds of crop massaging and coconut oil to get the crop to empty. Usually you will see it decrease day by day. How does it feel? Can you feel anything in there blocking things up?
