Help Please!!

Time in a warm clean tub of water will probably help. If it's a fungal infection, you may be able to treat it with something like Monistat cream. Do a search of the forum for fungal infections and see if you can find other advice.

Cleaning the affected area and giving the duck time to relax and float will probably help.

Some people use honey on bad spots like that. Of course you would need to bandage the leg to keep the duck from sticking to everything with which she comes in contact! It can be good to bandage the leg to keep her from eating whatever medicine you put on it.

It could be frostbite, by the way, in which case antibiotics might be a good idea. If you can get a picture . . . . that might help.

That looks like bumble foot. Here is a blog from Metzer Farms about bumble foot. http://www.metzerfarms.com/Bumblefoot.cfm?CustID=75576 I have never cut into any of my ducks or chickens feet that have had this problem. I do give oral antibiotics, and bandage the foot up after applying a topical antibiotic on the sore itself. You have to redress it often until it heals. Try doing more research on the topic to see what others have done.

well Imight have to agree with you azhenhouse Ithink it might be bumble foot now that i soaked her foot and let her swim in warm bath water. Today I did soak her foot in warm epsom salt water for about 20 min and it seamed to clean her foot up preaty good i am hopeing that some good quality rest and some soaking will help it heal faster

The soaking and rest will help alot. keeping it clean is a big job to keep infection down, doesn't look swollen but does it feel hot to the touch? if not hopefully just soaking in the epsom salt water and the rest and clinliness will be all you'll need. I'd soak it 2 times a day though if you can.

I went out and felt her foot and it is not hot it felt just the same as her good foot. Her foot is swollen around the "ankle" or joint of her foot and I alsonoticed that the black thing on the bottom of her foot is not attached arround edges but more so in the middle of the scab. I have already soaked her foot for about 20 min and then she wanted out I plann on soaking her foot again today around noon then again tonight

Good progress!

Keep up with the soaks. I use triple antibiotic cream twice a day for at least a week or two, then once a day mostly at night. This is a bigger case than we have ever had, so it will likely take quite a while for it to completely heal. But I expect that if it has not gotten into her bloodstream it will heal fine with daily attention.

After you have soaked her foot you may be able to pull the scab off. then you'll be able to clean the inside out. Hopefully you'll not have to cut. but being swollen sets off an alarm that the iinfection is in there big time. So I'd say if your don't see much change after soaking for at least 3 days then you might have to consider cutting it out and cleaning out the infection. If i was you I'd start reading about how it's done just in case. That way if you have to you'll be ready. You'll also need someone to help you who is not easily upset by something like this.

If I may add, I would seriously consider starting her on oral antibiotics, before you decide about cutting the foot. Looks like she's had the problem a while and if it's in her bloodstream then antibiotics should really help her.
