Help please

We have RIR's and they are going on 12 weeks. Just now one appeared to be doing a dust bath but was not moving, til my wife approached her. then she moved a bit. We thought she was sleeping, then saw a few of her "pals" pecking her, and she was not responding in defense. We picked her up, brought her in the house, put her in a box, with some water, and she did take a short drink, but she stands only. She pooped and it's white and very watery.Now my wife says she is drinking and eating some bread crumbs, ? Dehydrated? heat exhaustion ? I 'm a plumber, not a vet, and we haven't had this happen ever. Any one have a guess about what might be wrong?
She's very listless, and we think she may die soon. What can we do please???

I'm sorry your chicken is acting off. So she's drinking and eating, but otherwise not moving? Is she wheezy? Are her eyes and nostrils clear? Does she have a dirty butt? I know this is stressful and I'm not a vet either, but hopefully we can figure out what's going on with your chicken friend!

It could be cocci. I recommend purchasing Corid 9.6% liquid solution. Dosage is 9.5cc's per gallon of water for 5-7 days. Use an eyedropperful of the mixture to get it down her, ensure she swallows it on her own or she might aspirate. You'll have to do this 5-6 times a day until she can drink the mixture on her own.

Thanks peeple, sadly, she died yesterday morning around 9. She sat on the rungs of a kitchen chair for the night and didn't move at all. Just kept hanging her head lower and lower. Her eyes and breathing were clear. She took a little food, darnd a few times on her own. My wife put her on a rung for the night. I buried her when I got home. Sad. Thanks for the responses ! It's great to have like minded people to talk to and share information. I know I'm not here very often, but It's always a fun time to "sneak" through BYC. Thanks !

One last question, who writes a book for "dummies" to diagnos (sp) chicken illness, and cures?
